Large outbreaks of enterovirus D68 (EV-D68) in 2014 and 2016 were widespread in North America and other regions and coincided with associated cases of acute flaccid myelitis (AFM), a polio-like paralysis that is due to lesions in the anterior horn of the spinal cord. This session will discuss epidemiological and biological evidence supporting the association between EV-D68 and AFM. In addition, current recommendations related to diagnostic testing will be discussed.
